John: Maybe you could pass this report on to the club members and Happy Thanksgiving to you, hope you have a good day! The schooner creek trap had one Female Coho, Hoorah-I hear this is the first one since the fish ladder replacement? The Siletz trap had thirteen steelhead, nine male and four females, two of the females were native and continued on up the river. We checked one more trap on drift creek with no fish to report.          Hank

Time for tidal extremes: The Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore.: "High tide is expected to hit 10.3 feet Friday at 10:04 a.m., followed by 10.6-foot high tides at 10:48 a.m. Saturday and 11:33 a.m. Sunday. The last time high tide hit 10.6 feet at that location was Jan. 11, 2005. In between will be some unusually low tides that will top minus 2 feet. That should provide a bit of rockhounding heaven."

National Geographic News Photo Gallery: 8-Foot Giant Catfish Caught in Cambodia

National Geographic News Photo Gallery: 8-Foot Giant Catfish Caught in Cambodia: "This is the only giant catfish that has been caught this year so far, making it the worst year on record for catch of giant fish species,' said Zeb Hogan (far right), a fisheries biologist at the University of Reno in Nevada. After collecting data on the fish, Hogan released it unharmed. Giant catfish were once plentiful throughout Southeast Asia's Mekong River watershed, including the Tonle Sap River—home of the fish in these exclusive pictures taken near Phnom Penh. "

National Geographic News Photo Gallery: Taimen's Last Refuge Is Mongolia

National Geographic News Photo Gallery: Taimen's Last Refuge Is Mongolia: "Three taimen line up at the bottom of northern Mongolia's Eg River. The gigantic fish is the world's largest salmonid—the family of fish that includes salmon and trout. The species can live for more than 50 years, but they grow slowly, not reaching maturity until seven to nine years of age, experts say. Taimen migrate to their spawning habitat and can travel as much as 60 miles (97 kilometers) up- and downstream. But scientists using radio and acoustic tagging have shown that the fish generally stay in one place. "

On October 29th several members of our Fishing Club assisted ODFW with a conservation project where trees were placed in local creeks flowing in to the Yaquina and Alsea Rivers. It was a very interesting endeavor in that these trees were transported by helicopter. The goal is to provide gravel beds, deep pools and rearing ponds with the hope there will be more fish in future years. Our job was to direct traffic to insure no one crossed under the trees as they were being flown over. Thanks to Wayde Dudley and Mac Andrew for providing these pictures.
