It is with great sadness that I need to inform you that Ben Davi’s wife recently passed away. Donna will leave a great void in our Longview Hills Family. Ben as you know is a member of our Club and we ask that you remember Donna and Ben in your prayers. When next you see Ben, a kind word to him would be most appreciated. I will be sending a card to Ben and his family on behalf of the Club.

"LONGVIEW HILLS FISHING CLUB CLEANS UP BIG CREEK"

We had a great turn out yesterday for the monthly clean up of Newport's Big Creek Reservoir. There were 12 members and 2 guest, thank you so much for those who took time to help. As you can see in the pictures
we picked up a lot of trash that people left behind and or dumped at the reservior. We also hung several SOLV bags at the uper Reservoir area. After we were finished, some of us went to the Agate Beach Golf Course for lunch. Thank you again for those who helped, took us less time with this many hands.

Scientists say global warming triggering fish-killing 'dead zone' in Oregon

GRANTS PASS, Ore., Jul. 27, 2006
By JEFF BARNARD AP Environmental Writer
(AP) Bottom fish and crabs washing up dead on Oregon beaches are being killed by a recurring 'dead zone' of low-oxygen water that appears to be triggered by global warming, scientists say.

The area is larger and more deadly than in past years, and there are signs it is spreading north to Washington's Olympic Peninsula."

Here are some of the pictures of the Fish Cravings that Frank Stout was talking about that was in the show last week down in California. Great pictures Frank, thanks for sharing them with us. Just click on the pictures to make the larger.

Received From Frank Stout.........

My uncle and I also chartered a guide to take us bass fishing on Clear Lake in California. I was raised on Clear Lake but it has developed into the 2nd rated bass fishing lake in the world. In a four hour period the two of us caught 35 large mouth bass. I had 19 and my uncle had 16 (but who's counting). They ranged between 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 pounds If any of you are interested please let me know and I can provide you with the web site of our guide. He was fantastic and I can say that I have never had such a great experience fishing. There were boats all around us and we were the only ones having any luck but it was all due to the skill of our guide.

Frank sent pictures of some fish carvings that was also in the show down in Sacamanto, they will appear in the next article. Frank took 1st place in the area that he was judged in, with many others from different parts of the states and a few foreign country's. Complete article is on the main web page of LVH's. Great job Frank!

Domoic acid levels close Clatsop Beach to razor clamming

Date:July 13, 2006
ASTORIA State fishery and agricultural officials today announced that Clatsop Beach is closed to razor clamming effective immediately.
The closure is due to recent testing of domoic acid levels by the Oregon Department of Agriculture which revealed amounts above the 20 parts per million (ppm) level that triggers a closure. Domoic acid is a natural toxin produced by algae blooms that can remain in razor clams' edible tissues for many months before being purged.

Seals to Lose Free Lunch?

Sea lions and seals have perfected the art of finding the easy meal in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon community to haze, without harming
The seals and sea lions that populate the Rogue River bay are well schooled in how simple it is to score an easy salmon meal. They hang out at the fish-cleaning stations waiting for carcasses to come down a discharge pipe. Or they patrol the bay waiting for anglers to hook chinook, which they steal right off of the lines. Hopefully for anglers, hazing efforts will put an end to their free lunch.
