Phil Reed Reporting.......................

Fished the Yaquina Bay on Friday, August 18, no fish, in fact saw very little on the screen and saw no activity on the surface, lots of bait fish and tons of weeds.

Fished N-Bay on Saturday, from day light till 1:00 P.M., must have been 75 boats between Wheeler and above the 101 Bridge, never saw a fish caught. Talked to a Guide who brought a sea sick client in from the jaws, very rough fishing and only one fish landed for the fleet. Fog was very bad and the ocean was breaking form the North to the South Jetty.

Also spoke with a friend about the Siletz who went to the over there, very slow! Hate to say it but we need rain and lots of it to cool the water down and bring in fish. Will the dead zone keep the fish out? Don’t Know!

The August 17th LVH Fishing Club meeting was very informative as well as enjoyable. James Ray, Fish and STEP biologist with ODFW, provided over 20 members with a Power Point presentation of the many volunteer opportunities available to us within the STEP Program. All of these programs run throughout the year and are conducted within the Mid-Coast Region on ODFW. Club Officers complimented the membership on the fine meeting turn out and encouraged all members to welcome new members of our LVH community to come to one of our meetings and perhaps consider joining our fine club. We are now over 40 members and more are welcome. Barbara Dudley was elected as new Public Affairs Officer. Charles Burke has done a wonderful job for the Club but is forced to step down due to health problems.

Here is a photo of the new Board for the LVH Fishing Club. Appearances can be deceiving, they really are a very competent group of people. Please feel free to go to any of them if you have any questions.
Barb Dudley says:

When we finished our last clean-up outing at Big Creek and hauled all the trash away, we left a few trash bags around key places hoping people would use them. Upon checking last week, the bags are full (as shown in photo) and the area is much cleaner. It appears the plan was a success!

CNN.com - Bar codes latest catch in salmon fishing - Aug 14, 2006:
GOLD BEACH, Oregon (AP) -- The last time Scott Boley came home from salmon fishing, he had 17 fish to show for three days of work.

'That's pretty skimpy fishing,' said Boley, the skipper of a salmon troller, a partner in the Fishermen Direct Seafood market and a member of the federal panel that sets ocean salmon fishing seasons.

But Boley hopes those fish and bar codes tied to their jaws represent a better future for Oregon and California salmon fishermen, who saw their catch cut by nearly 90 percent this summer to protect dwindling returns of wild chinook to California's Klamath River.

"BEACH CLEAN UP WAS ANOTHER SUCESS FOR CLUB"

This was received from Club Member Wayne Hill.....................

We had an enjoyable time walking the beach--there were 8 of us and did find some garbage and a lot of dead birds on the beach. There civic duty was done on Tuesday afternoon, August 1st.
