At our LVH Fishing Club meeting on September 18th, we were very fortunate to have John Sanchez as a guest speaker. John is a member of the Central Coast Fly Fishers and has a professional background with the US Forest Service. He presented us with an interesting and informative power point presentation on the "Life Cycle of Salmon" with the emphasis on the young smolts going downstream rather than the adult salmon struggling upstream that we usually hear about. We all learned something and . . .

how often do you see Alan Canfield so intense.? With his excellent concentration skills he was chosen to man the computer and change slides. Good job, Alan!
John talking about how important the geology of an area is for the salmon.
John brought his children with him. It was nice to have young people at our meeting for a change. John was one of two new members accepted into the LVH Fishing Club at this meeting.

We also were pleased to welcome Jack Prince as a new member to our Fishing Club. Jack is also a member of CCFF and will be a welcome addition to our Club.

WELCOME ABOARD TO OUR TWO NEW MEMBERS, JOHN AND JACK!!!

This is where some of the funds from the U-DA-MAN Tournament go:

Larry Dale, Wayde Dudley and Barb Dudley helped ODFW/US Forest Service on a project at Big Elk Creek on Sunday, September 21st. We directed traffic (which consisted of about 4 vehicles) while watching a helicopter move logs from a designated stockpile to various places on Big Elk Creek as part of a salmon enhancement project. It was quite a sight to see the trees pass overhead and the amazing ability of the helicopter pilot to place the logs precisely where they needed to be in the creek.

FISHING STORIES

Here are a couple of photos from LVH Fishing Club members:

Phil Reed caught this 44 pound "hog" on Tillamook Bay September 15th.

Hank Bryson took Wayde Dudley on as a "deckhand" on his last commercial fishing trip for albacore. They were gone from September 15th through the 18th. Here is a picture of Hank with one of the catch. Should get a lot of tuna fish sandwiches out of this one . . .

Thanks for the photos, guys, and good fishing!!!

IN MEMORY .........

IN MEMORY << of >> DICK GARVEY

It is my sad duty to inform you all, that the Longview Hills Fishing Club lost one of our own yesterday afternoon (9/9/08) >>> DICK GARVEY <<< After a long illness, passed away in the Corvallis Hospital.

**** He will be missed helping us, this year, with our LVH FC Support for the Annual U-DA-MAN Salmon Tournament. He really enjoyed being a part of the event set up at the South Beach Marina Venue………

**** There was only one >><< “PAPA PICKLE” >><< His quick whit & brilliant smile will be absent from our Club Meetings, but his spirit & love of fishing will remain with us ………

**** We extend our deepest condolences to Dick’s lovely wife Bev & his Family. It seems to me, that we can best serve the Garvey Family now, by being available & supportive to Bev over this difficult transition period……….

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ODFW STEWARDSHIP PROJECT >>><<>

Hi folks. Just a note regarding the Great Job Wayde did on this 9 Site Stewardship Project … He would be the 1st to say a lot of good folks helped with this, but he took the initiative to get the GPS Data registered for future ODFW use ………

P.S. I am here to tell you all, Wayde & Electric Bill make a Great Post Hole Digging Team ………. Thanks Guys … It was a really fun day, topped off by a good Lunch at Oscars ……. THE HOOK

We had a great turnout at our monthly breakfast meeting at Agate Beach Golf Course on Thursday, September 4th. Every chair was full and it was nice to see everyone. After we got all the "business" out of the way (reports from members of the Board, etc.), John passed around newspaper articles brought in by Bob Breakfield about his summer fishing in Alaska. Pictures of the salmon and halibut certainly had everyone in the crowd sit up and take notice and, I'm sure, more than one were a little jealous.
Special guest Tom Simpson gave a wonderful report on a crabbing trip he had last week and told a few tales on John and Wayne that had us all laughing. Walter Chuck gave an insightful and informative report on what's going on with the marine reserve issue. It was nice to have both these guys back.

And, as always, everyone enjoyed relaxing and visiting with friends.
Good to have the Breakfields back from Alaska.
All in all, it was a great meeting with good conversation, good information and good food. Hope more of you can make it next month!
