GINNY SCHERER .......

Hello Club Friends >>>>>

It is with sadness, that I share with you some recent information Wayne Hill & I received from Jack & Ginny Scherer. Jack as you may recall is the Founding (2004) President of our LVH Fishing Club. We thought it only fitting to invite The Scherer’s to drive down from Lacy Washington & join us for our August 19 Luncheon.

In the course of our conversations with them >< They shared with us Ginny’s recent health diagnosis >< Which has Life Threatening Repercussions. The bottom line is that it will not be possible for them to be with us in August >>&<< It would be most appropriate for us to consider putting Ginny on our Angel List >>>>>>

I am sure the Scherer’s would be most appreciative of your consideration & I Thank Each of You on their behalf …….. JCS

We had two very special guests at our July 1st breakfast meeting. Over the last couple of years Virginia Tardaewether and Parker Ogburn have been extremely helpful to the Longview Hills Fishing Club and have certainly contributed to the success of the Newport Middle School Aquatic Angler Program. We thought it was time to welcome them as guests to one of our meetings.

They both talked a little about what they do and participated in some of our discussions.

As the person in charge of our Aquatic Angler Program, Brian Hudson has worked closely with these Parker and Virginia and introduced them to the Fishing Club.

They were each then presented with an ODFW Certificate of Appreciation. Thank you again to Parker Ogburn and Virginia Tardaewether. We look forward to working closely with you in the future.

JULY BEACH PATROL ...... 16 JULY 09

BEVERLY BEACH PATROL >< FOR JULY                 (7/16/09)

Just to let you all know >< We had another Successful Beach Litter Patrol on our Adopted Oregon Coast Mile #223 >>>>>>>>

Ellie held a Safety Briefing with us at the Club House & Split us into 2 Groups >< The Beach Mistress “North Patrol” … Comprised of Ellie, Bev, Bob & Roger & The Beach Miester  “Southern Patrol .. Comprised of Dave, Wayne & Me >>>>>

Suffice to say, the Weather was Terrific & the Beach was relatively clean …… As always, we found the ubiquitous selection of Plastic Bottles, etc & Lots of Fire Works Stuff left over from Celebrations on the 4th of July. I would estimate a combined collection total of about 80 lbs of Stuff.

For future reference, Ellie would like us all plan on 2 Additional Summer Patrols >> 26 AUGUST & 24 SEPTEMBER. More specific information on these Beach Patrols will be published in our Aug/Sept Monthly Activity Schedules.

Special Thanks to ALL of the JULY Beach Patrollers ……….   THE HOOK

MUSSEL FLASH >>>>>>>

MUSSEL FLASH >><< COASTAL BEACHES CLOSED TO MUSSEL HARVESTING         (News Times Article dtd. 1 July 09)

Heads Up to all of you who enjoy Recreational Harvesting of Mussels >>>>> According to the recent article in the News Times, the Oregon Dept. of Agriculture has put out a notice to CLOSE Mussel Harvesting from the South Jetty of the Columbia River all the way down to Neptune Park, which is just South of Yachats.

Apparently, there are dramatically increased levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning ( PSP Toxins ) showing up in the Mussels !~!~!   Eating Mussels Contaminated with “PSP Toxins” can cause minor to severe illness or even death.  For more the specific information check out the recent  N.T. Article >>>>>>

NOTE >< ODA will continue to monitor this situation & put out additional advisories as this Coastal Mussel Harvest Restriction continues.
