Newport News-Times: Sea safety and survival training offered:
A two-day course in sea safety and survival training will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 8 and 9 at Englund Marine Supply in Newport.

This course emphasizes practical safety training for commercial fishermen and will provide individuals the opportunity to learn how to save their own lives and those of fellow crew members. Topics will include personal safety gear, safety regulations, de-watering pumps, marine fire fighting, immersion suits, abandon ship exercise, and the use of other marine safety equipment. Graduates contend it's a must for all who go to sea.

Completion of this course meets federal regulations 28.265 and 28.270 for commercial fishing vessels. Attendees must be able to participate in the entire two-day course. The course is free, but pre-registration is required. To register contact Kathy Buisman at the Lincoln County Extension Office, 574-6537, ext. 10.
